The dining room's rear exterior wall and the wall it shares with the kitchen had finished surfaces that we removed down to the framing to start the job. Once the framing was exposed, we installed insulation batts in the exterior wall's stud cavities. We hung new sheetrock over both walls, taped and mudded it, then primed and painted. Where the wall meets the kitchen, we finished the pass-through opening's framing with drywall, giving it a smooth, rounded archway. The dining room now has two finished walls in light gray paint, with the doorway trim and kitchen pass-through finished to match.
